Die im Jahre 1881 gegründete Bunnahabhain Distillery ist im Nordosten der Insel Islay gelegen, genau genommen an der Flussmündung des River Margadale am Sund von Islay, drei bis vier Meilen nördlich von Port Askaig. Die Gebäude der Distillery sind um einen Hof herum gebaut worden. Zunächst mit zwei, ab 1963 mit 2 Washstills und 2 Spiritstills, wird bei Bunnahabhain ein Single Malt Whisky produziert, der gegenüber anderen auf Islay, scheinbar ohne "Insel-Charakter" auskommen muss. So wirkt der Bunnahabhain geschmacklich eher leicht, jedoch zeigt sein Körper, bei genauerer Betrachtung eine interessante ölige Ausprägung.
Goldfarben geprägte Anmutung im Tumbler - zeigt er ein bemerkenswert frisches Aroma von Seeluft und blumigen Noten - sein eher mittelgewichtiger Körper hat eine recht feste Struktur, wirkt ölig mit Noten von Nuss, Malz und Eichenholz - lang und facettenreich im Nachklang.
