Glen Spey gehört zu den fünf Brennereien in Rothes, nahe den Ruinen des gleichnamigen Schlosses. James Stewart war es, zur damaligen Zeit auch Eigentürmer der Macallan Distillery, der Glen Spey im Jahre 1885 erbaute und schon kurze Zeit nach Fertigstellung im Jahre 1887 an die bedeutende W. & A. Gilbey Distillery (berühmt für ihren Gin) verkaufte. Im Jahre 1970 wurde Glen Spey umfassend renoviert und arbeit seitdem mit 2 Washstills und 2 Spiritstills. Das Wasser für die Destillation stammt vom Doonie Burn.
Golden in seiner Farbe, im Bukett wirkt er leicht und duftig, Anklänge von Nuss und grasigen Aromen, auf der Zunge präsentiert er einen eher leichten Körper, wirkt aromatisch mit Noten von Nuss, Torf, Gras u. a. mehr. Im Nachklang wirkt er leicht und trocken.
