Whisky

The distillery is in the heart of Speyside, between Knockando and Cardhu. It was founded in 1896 in the small town of Tamdhu (“little dark hill”) and produces distinguished Highland Malt Whisky within it 3 wash stills and 3 spirit stills. Water comes from the Tamdhu burn, which flows through woodland into the Spey. Auchentoshan Distillery is situated in Old Kilpatrick in West Dunbartonshire. The distillery works with 3 stills: 1 wash still, 1 intermediate still and 1 spirit still. The in 1881 founded Distillery Bunnahabhain is located in the north-east of Islay, exactly situated at the mouth of River Margadale at the  Sound of Islay, three up to four miles north of Port Askaig. The distillery buildings are constructed around a courtyard. The whisky production started with two stills, from 1963 on with 2 wash stills and 2 spirit stills. In contrary of other Islay Malt Distilleries, at Bunnahabhain they distil a Single Malt Whisky without the typical „Islay Character“. Charlestown-of-Aberlour is situated in the heart of speyside and the distillery is named after it. The first documentary mention is dated back to 1826, but the distillery seems to be a lot older. The Aberlour distillery works with 2 wash stills and 2 spirit stills und takes the water from Ben Rinnes springs. On the Scottish Isle of Arran, near Lochranza, Harold J. Currie started to build up a new distillery in 1991. The first whisky has been distilled on the 29th July 1995 - after a period of more than 150 years there is a distillery on the Isle of Arran again. There has been the Lagg Distillery from 1825 to 1837, which was established by Matthew Speirs. Nowadays, the Arran Distillery is owned by Harold J. Currie und works with 1 wash still and 1 spirit still. The Glenlivet distillery is situated at the Braes of Glenlivet slopes in the valley of the Livet. The distillery got the first licence to the 1823 customs law to produce whisky. In the deep highland of the Livet valley is enough fresh spring water for the purposes of the distillery. The water arise in granite soils and assimilate minerals and different flavours on the way into the valley. After distillation and a long maturing time in barrels the whisky gets elegant, delicate and complex. The Linkwood Distillery is situated at the river Lossie, near Elgin. The distillery was founded in 1820 and was reconstructed and modernized, but its character is still traditional. Only the warehouses are really old. The production works with 3 wash stills and 3 spirit stills. Longmorn distillery was founded in 1894/95 near the town of Elgin, in the Speyside by a Mr. John Duff. Long before, there was a chapel and than, for more than 200 years a mill. The distillery was expanded up to 4 wash stills and 4 spirit stills in the 1970’s and the water comes from a natural spring (everlasting fizzy water). The Miltonduff Distillery was founded in 1824 by Andrew Peary and Robert Bain on historical grounds. A Benedictine abbey, the Pluscarden abbey was built a couple of hundred meters from the distillery today. In mediaeval times they breaw beer, perhaps they distilled.
